Melbourne, Australia. His parents Michael and Anne Susan are of
a Croatian decent. Bogut started playing basketball from an early
age and was given much support and encouragement from his parents.
Bogut's early successes included playing with the Australian Institute
of Sport and being named the MVP of the 2003 FIBA Junior World
Championships in Greece while playing with the under 19 Australian
Andrew Bogut moved to the United States of America to study and
play college basketball at Utah. His first year of basketball
was relatively unsuccessful, but gave him the motivation to go
on and succeed. It was during his sophomore year that Bogut began
to prove his skills as a basketball player and gain the recognition
of the fans, media, and NBA selectors.
The 7 foot (2.13m) tall basketballer played with the Australian
Olympic basketball team in Greece, 2004. In five games the young
Bogut averaged 14.8 points and 8.8 rebounds.
It was in 2005 that Andrew Bogut was selected as the first choice
in the NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks.
Bogut has caused several people to react negatively to some of
his controversial public statements. His confidence in his own
abilities has been seen as arrogance by some reporters.
