His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a Tibetan spiritual leader and the 14th incarnation of the Dalai Lama, called Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso, or just Tenzin Gyatso. The Dalai Lama was born as Lhamo Thondup on the 6th of July, 1935 in a village in Tibet.

The 14th Dalai Lama began studying at the age of 6 and eventually finished his Doctorate of Buddhist Philosophy at the age of 25. He was forced to take on great responsibilities at a young age, when at just 16 he became the Head of State for Tibet during a time of great unrest and conflict with China. He was eventually forced into exile in 1959 with the occupation of the Chinese military.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama continues to work for the Tibetan people while living in exile in India. Tenzin Gyatso has became famous worldwide, meeting with leaders from governments, spiritual leaders and celebrities. He has traveled widely, unlike previous Dalai Lamas.

The Dalai Lama has been recognized for struggle for peace with many awards and recognitions from major organizations including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.

He has published several books on Buddhism, life, and happiness.
