Peter Garrett is a famous Australian musician, politician, and environmentalist. Garrett was the lead singer for the pop/rock band Midnight Oil. He is now a politician and member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP).

The Australian rock band Midnight Oil was also known as the Oils. They were started in the 1970s and finished up in 2002 when Peter Garrett quit the band to focus more on his political career. Many of their songs had strong political, social or environmental messages.

Peter Garrett's political views have become more mainstream since joining the Australian Labor Party. His opinions are more inline with those of the ALP.

Peter Garrett became the Minister for Environment, Heritage and the Arts in the Kevin Rudd government when the Australian Labour Party defeated the Liberal Party led by John Howard in 2007. Being Minister for the Environment did not include the arguably more important role of Minister for Climate Change and Water which went to Penny Wong.

Garrett is the father of three children and is happily married.
